This locations was originally known as one of the few production centers in Japan of clay that is made by crushing the rocks mined from the nearby Hanasaka mountains. This museum is able to show the depth of craftsmanship in Japan by carrying on the functions of clay-making and combining them with the functions of a museum.

The building is connected by a multi-function roof like it is a landform, the interior and exterior walls were made using the Hanasaka clay from this area, carbon fiber was utilized to reproduce wall substrates with traditional tea-ceremony room construction methods in a contemporary manner, and earthquake resistant walls were designed so that they are transparent and match the clay walls.
